Doing

I shared with my brother some of the ideas that i learned about the internet and the precautions that he can take to protect his children. He as 2 little girls and so i felt like sharing with him the Elder Bednar talk "Things as the Really Are" because it speaks of wasting a lot of time on social networking sites like facebook. i think girls are more susceptible to this than boys which he agreed with and we talked about the precautions that he will take with them as they get older.

Reading Reflection

The articles that i read were a very eye opening experience. I know that we here this stuff all of the time but it is humbling to read it and understand the blessing that medea is, but also the great caution that we must use with it. Some of the important things that I learned as I read were that we as members of the church need to unite against the evil that is out there and speak up about it, we also need to cation ourselves so that we don't waste immense amounts of time. We need take major precautions and also in the final article i chose to read, "Leave It Alone" I learned about how our brain records what we see and it is with us forever. As a teacher and a parent it is my responsibility to educate my children and students about the dangers of media and teach them the proper ways of using.

Assignment 5

My Communication Experience

First of all I was surprised at how easy this really was. Both of these technologies can be major assets for teaching. Some times it is just so much easier to give instruction to students over a video or by just communicating with them live on video. I found that i liked the live video better, because it leaves room for questions to be asked and answered all at the same time. With the asynchronies communication it takes time to go back and forth to make sure that everything is right and understood, but if you are communicating synchronously all that can be done at the same time.

The Difference Between TPK and TPACK

After reading the article I believe that TPK is just the understanding of how to use technology in teaching, but not necessarily how to use it in your content area. So if you have TPK you would have an understanding of how to use powerpoint to present information, know when to use technology to engage your students, or know what activities are age appropriate. This is important for a social studies teacher but it is best to have TPACK

TPACK is not only having a good understanding of the how to use technology to teach but the ability to use it in your content are to help your students learn. So a social studies teacher who is skilled with TPACK will be able to do a lecture power point with a few min of a documentary put into it at the right time to keep there attention, or they may be able to use GPS's for geography assignments. Teachers who have this ability have a huge advantage to be an affective teacher.
